How to choose the best running shoes. Vancouver has a very strong running culture. At any time of the year, you can find throngs of people running on the seawall. Now that it’s sunny outside, you almost can’t walk without getting stuck in the middle of a running pack. It’s impossible not to fall under the spell and join in. When we were in Warsaw recently, we went to hear an ultra-marathoner speak. During his talk, it came to light that he doesn’t run in any particular gear and in fact, doesn’t pay any attention to what he wears. Many people were caught up in his statement. While this is a very romantic notion, I don’t believe that it works for everybody.
For the past year or so, I’ve been wearing a pair of runners that have been giving me lots of ugly foot problems. Nothing that needs to be put in writing, but it involved bruising and blistering. I finally decided that enough was enough and paid a visit to my local running store, The Running Room. Once there, I was thrilled to find an amazing sales associate who has the same foot issues that I do. She took one look at my current shoes and showed me exactly why they were wrong for me. She then proceeded to help me find the ideal runners. They mold perfectly to my feet and are so comfortable that It feels like I’m wearing socks. The whole process took about a half and hour as we dissected every bit of my foot and each shoe in the store, but in the end I left with a new-found excitement for my running.
If you are having any problems with your running I would definitely recommend getting your footwear checked. So while I’m not necessarily the fastest or most stylish runner on the seawall, my feet are thanking me every step of the way.

I love your running gear, so feminine! Anyways I have a question when the Olympics was in Vancouver did you go and see any events?
Sadly I didn’t get to see any of the sporting events (just the other ones). We live right next to the stadium though, so we were right in the middle of the excitement and it fantastic!!!
Oh that’s cool tho.
I’ve gone through Reebok, Adidas and Nike. Now, I’m a Zoot girl. The only things I run in is Zoot but I’m looking at doing some more barefoot running so Vibrams are figuring high on my list. I have wide feet and it’s a bit hard to find shoes that suit. I can’t really be nonchalant like the ultramarathoner because I have had shoes that have hurt me physically.
I would imagine Vancouver is a brilliant place to go running.
The shoes I got are really minimalist too! They’re by Brooks and really fit like a glove. I have bunions which creates a whole lot of other issues…. I can’t be nonchalant either!
I agree! Good running shoes are a must! 🙂
I would love to start running again. I haven’t done it years…but I have running shoes for walking on the treadmill.

Such an inspiring post to make me work out more! Adorable workout clothes as well–I especially have a soft spot for those coral-y pink socks!
I wore them today and they are SO COMFORTABLE! Love them.
I agree 100%, good shoes make all the difference! I wish that I loved running, or exercise of any kind. Unfortunately I love eating and drinking, so the running/exercise is a necessity.
love these items and totally agree on shoes. i don’t love running at all, but for any other work out that definitely matters

Really cute running outfit! I have some Nike’s and every time I wear them I feel like they are squeezing on my feet even though they are the right size and fit. It’s like as soon as I start running they just tighten (probably me not the shoe). I also have Vibram Five Fingers and I like running in those a lot I just hate the looks you get in them.
No it’s not you, it’s the shoe! I was wearing Nike before and they were just hitting in the wrong spot and giving me really bad bruises. Find a good sales associate at a dedicated running store and they’ll help you find something awesome!
That’s exactly what was happening to me, soreness and bruises. I guess I’m making a trip to the store this weekend for some running shoes :). Thank you!
I wish I was a runner… don’t really have the stamina built up for it.. I’m more of a run to a sale kind of girl…..
Hope

I usually do Adidas or Nike but I have a pair of the Nike free runs and they’re amazing but guess if you’ve found the perfect fit then … Great post! xx Karen
Thanks! I went through every brand and there was this really cute pink pair that I was hoping would be the ones but finally I decided to just look at the fit…..
I am aiming for this, to find a great pair of kicks to be that comfortable when running.

So glad you posted this. I have been having similar issues with my running shoes. What brand and style are yours?
My shoes are Brooks PureCadence 2. I tried on so many brands and styles and these were the best! I hope you find a pair that works for you!
Is the running top in the picture from the Running Room too?
Happy Easter.

Nice sneakers….. Not Only for runner!!!!!
Agreed! Running shoes must be fitting. I have pretty wide feet and choosing the right pair of running shoes definitely helped me improve my pace. Guess that if you’re serious about running, it’s worth investing in some proper gear :p
Love your sneakers Caroline! Even when you run you look stylish 😉

I love this kind of style! Sporty chic. Your sneakers are amazing.. I’m so jealous 🙁 xoxo tfd-thefashiondistrict.blogspot.com
I tested them out today and they are super comfortable!
I wish it were the footwear that kept me from running! Ha! Do they have a store where you can buy non laziness? 😉
The right shoes are important for me too – I guess pointe shoes are like running shoes when it comes down to how you feel and how you perform in them.
It’s exactly the same thing!
Love those running shoes! I, too, get feet problems from wearing my tennis shoes longer than I should. I’ve found that Asics work the best for me 🙂

I love this post! So glad you got your footwear corrected! This is so important! Love your selection! Makes me want to go for a jog (except that it’s 10pm and I’m in my pj’s lol)! Xo
Great post, I love run!
I have to say that these days running and other sports marketers/product manufacturers have finally noticed that we ladies would like to wear “female” clothing and not “male” clothing while we do our thing. It keeps getting better and better. The colors and cuts this year are especially fabulous and bright. I am fairly active but I too like to have some looking gear to wear. The shoes are wonderful!
Greetings love! Beautiful pictures and amazing post! Inspiring one! Thanks for stopping by and I heartly appreciate it! Are we following yet? (: Stop by me soon again! xx
With love ❤

Being a runner myself for the past 3 years, I would definitely say that the most important thing are the shoes. Everything else, is a matter of choice (and budget) really. For people living in a rather cold climate, I would also suggest to invest in a proper thermal, long sleeved shirt too though.
Great running gear!! xx
Okay this just inspired me to go running thank you I need it:)
