Top 10 songs for the gym. I’m one of those people who needs music to workout. I need something that has a great beat and that inspires me to push a little bit extra. So when I saw a fabulous song checklist on Emily’s blog, it was a no brainer to ask her to put one together for me! I’m positively thrilled to introduce you to Emily of Harvest + Bloom!
LOOKING FOR A LITTLE EXTRA MOTIVATION AT THE GYM? CHECK OUT THESE 10 TUNES
I’m a firm believer that music can make or break or a good workout. It can be the difference between digging in and crushing it, or feeling tired, sluggish and uninspired.
Finding what music works for you can be a bit of trial and error, so pay attention to the kind of songs that give you energy (great for high intensity workouts) versus the ones that are causing you to slow down (great for stretching and low impact workouts).
And if nothing else, this is a great playlist for a kitchen dance party or two.
10 songs to help you get your groove on:
- Dirrty – Christina Aguilera ft. Redman
I’m pretty sure this song has been on every workout playlist I’ve ever made. It’s got a great beat, it makes me feel powerful, and always helps me find that hidden energy when I’m feeling a little tired. - Bang, Bang – K’naan and Adam Levine
Ever notice how Adam Levine can take a seemingly okay song and make it amazing? Not that he did that here. It was already a good song, which he made EVEN BETTER. - Send Me On My Way – Rusted Root
As a Pittsburgh girl, Rusted Root has always held a special place in my heart. This song always brings me back to high school, their concerts, and dancing around like a crazy hippie. I literally can’t sit still when it comes on. - Ride Wit Me – Nelly ft. St. Lunatics
I went through a HUGE Nelly phase. Maybe it’s because he became huge when I was living in St. Louis, or maybe it’s because his song awesome. I kind of don’t care why, I just make sure it goes onto the workout list. - Walking on Sunshine – Katrina & The Waves
This was the song my husband and I walked into at our wedding reception. It has a way of brightening up my day and making me tap my toes. I guess that’s what she means by walking on sunshine. - Footloose – Kenny Loggins
Whenever I hear this song, I have to channel my inner Kevin Bacon and start pretending to be on the set of the movie, dancing my ass off. I guess that’s why it’s one of my favorite workout songs. - Blowing Me Up Wth Her Love – JC Chasez
Oh, JC. You SLAY me with this one. Also, any video that features Tara Reid, a marching band, and a monster truck show is tops in my book. - Work It Out – Jurassic Five ft. Dave Matthews
It’s a song called Work It Out. On a workout mix. I’m so meta. (I also happen to love the song.) - Come & Get It – Selena Gomez
I think this was the first some of Selena’s that I actually LIKED. And by like, I totally mean it makes me dance around my house like a crazy woman. It also makes me pick up my pace, whether that’s doing dishes, going on a walk, or while driving (oops). - WTF (Where They From) – Missy Elliot ft. Pharrel
No workout mix would be complete without an appearance from Missy. She always makes me want to shake my booty and work it hard. I honestly had a hard time choosing JUST ONE, but figured I couldn’t go wrong with this one. Also, the video is pretty damn amazing.
