How to wake up looking fabulous. So, lately I’ve noticed that I don’t necessarily look so awesome when I wake up in the morning. I look a little tired, my skin could be better and my hair is less than stellar. This always seems to happen in transition season. My building has turned on the heating and I can feel the air getting drier. So far it has been pretty rainy, which helps, but I know that once the cold weather hits a whole slew of other problems will crop up.
My days are pretty busy. I don’t have a whole lot of time (or desire) to spend hours at a spa or to put on face masks, so the best time for me to get my beauty treatments in is at night and preferably when I’m sleeping.
HOW TO WAKE UP LOOKING FABULOUS
Wash it. I admit that I’m terrible at this. There are weeks on end when I wash my face before bed religiously and then suddenly, for no reason, I get bored and I stop. The thing is, you (we) need to make a habit of washing our faces every night. For the full scoop read: HOW TO PROPERLY WASH YOUR FACE
Moisturize it. We all want to wake up with a fresh youthful complexion, right? Nighttime is the ideal time to undo some of the damage that you did during the day. Start with a serum that deals with your skincare needs and follow up with an ultra hydrating moisturizer (look for ingredients like: hyaluronicacid, glycolic acid and peptides). Lips. Don’t forget about your lips because cracked dry lips won’t help you look awesome in the morning. Twice a week, gently exfoliate your lips and every night apply an intensive moisturizer. In the morning your lips will be ready for lipstick or will look great with a simple gloss.
Hair. Save yourself some time in the morning by applying a dry shampoo at night. Yes, that’s right. Since your scalp produces oil during the night, you can wake up with a fresher head of hair. Read: BEST DRY SHAMPOOAND HOW TO USE IT. After you’ve done this, tie your hair back so that the oil that gets produced doesn’t get on your face as this might cause breakouts.
Wash your sheets. Who doesn’t get lazy with washing their sheets? … I do, that’s for sure. Make an effort to wash them 1x week to keep bacteria at bay. Also, invest in a really good quality pillow (silk or satin is best) that will be gentle with less friction on your skin. While you are at it, buy two and in a pinch prop you head up. This will help with your circulation and prevent your eyes from getting puffy. Having two pillows also makes it easier to sleep on your back which helps minimize premature wrinkles.
Watch what you eat. You know that saying you are what you eat? Well, it applies here. For those mornings when waking up looking rested and fresh is especially important, skip the simple carbs, extra salt and alcohol and load up on fresh proteins like salmon.
Get a good night’s rest. Part of looking fabulous in the morning is having a restful sleep. Light a candle before bed, spend 5 minutes meditating and keep some lavender near your bed. All of these elements will help you relax and fall asleep faster.
