7 HEALTHY MORNING HABITS FOR LOOKING AND FEELING YOUR BEST
Today’s post is coming to you courtesy of Vanna, a fitness enthusiast, business woman and a very motivating person.
Hi there! I’m Vanna, the creator of Gel-V and the V-Belt. I’ve spent my whole career helping women look and feel their very best by living a healthy lifestyle. Today I want to share my top seven healthy morning habits with you!
As tempting as it is to hit the snooze button in the morning and roll over for just ten more minutes, starting your morning feeling sluggish and groggy will leave you stumbling through the day without direction. Instead of resenting the alarm clock, embrace the day with these healthy habits.
1) Get Up and Get Moving
When the alarm goes off, get up right away. Stand up, stretch out and get ready to tackle whatever the day has to bring. If you have trouble dragging yourself out of bed, try placing the alarm on the other side of the room or get a novelty clock that forces you to chase it in order to turn it off.
2) Avoid Electronics
Leave your phone and computer alone when you first get up. Sitting around checking your email, Facebook wall and Instagram feed holds you up and decreases overall productivity. Before you know it, you’ve spent an hour looking at pictures of your best friend’s cat rather than getting started with your to-do list. Instead, focus on stretching and easing your body into the day! You can perform a Wakeup Routine in your living room, bedroom or your favorite location – I love going down to the beach and breathing in the salty air to kickstart my day.
3) Hydrate Right Away
Drinking a glass of warm water with lemon juice in it wakes up your digestive system and gives your metabolism a boost for the day. It also helps to hydrate you after hours without water and makes you feel more awake and energized than coffee.
4) Make Exercise a Priority
Working out in the morning lets you get your exercise routine in before the day becomes too hectic. Whether you hit the gym to lift weights, go for a run around the neighborhood or stay inside with your favorite workout DVD, morning exercise revs up your metabolism and boosts energy. You should notice a big difference in how you feel after just a few days of early workouts.
5) Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Once you’ve powered through exercising, head to the kitchen and make yourself a good breakfast with a healthy balance of carbohydrates and protein. A bowl of quinoa with lentils and some fruit is a great way to recover after strength training. Oatmeal with berries fills you up after a cardio session. If you’re in a hurry or it’s too hot for a warm meal, whip up a healthy smoothie with bananas, berries, kale and a spoonful of hemp or chia seeds.
6) Reach for Green Tea
Filling up on coffee with breakfast can sabotage your healthy morning by sending your body on a caffeinated roller coaster ride. Green tea is much lower in caffeine and contains healthy compounds such as antioxidant polyphenols that protect against cell damage and may help to keep blood sugar stable throughout the day.
7) Get Some Sun
Finally, take a minute to enjoy the morning sunshine before you head to work. Natural light improves mood and supports a healthy circadian rhythm. That means you’ll feel happier as you go about your daily routine, and you should find it easier to sleep at night.
Together, these seven habits make every morning healthier, more productive and more enjoyable.
