Fall Skincare Guide. As much as I love fall fashion, I’m not sure that I’m ready for the cool weather just yet. Gone are the lazy summer days when daylight seems to go on forever, no one is in a huge rush and we can lounge about in cafes, as evenings slowly transition into festive nights.
On the plus side, it means that I get to shake up my summer beauty routine. I spent the past few weeks scouring my local makeup and beauty isles and it was pretty exciting. I didn’t purchase too many products this summer, so it was definitely time to stock up.
FALL SKINCARE GUIDE
RAMP UP THE MOISTURE
Face and Body. As the temperatures start to drop, it’s time to up your moisturizing game. As air conditioners are being turned off and we are starting to slowly be subjected to heaters, it’s important to supplement our skin’s lost moisture with thicker and richer formulations. Also, this is the time to start undoing some of summer’s damage. All that time spent in the sun, in chlorinated pools or in saltwater is bound to leave some lasting effects. I’m a big fan of using products that are olive oil based. When in Canada, I always reach for Belmondo Organic Skincare and when in Europe my choice is Oliveda Olive Tree Pharmacy.
Sunscreen. Even though we won’t be spending hours and hours in the sun, it’s not an excuse to give up sunscreen and this applies double for everyone who loves working out outdoors. Whenever possible I like to use a mineral sunscreen and while I do use a cream based one, more and more I’m loving the brush-on ones which I can easily reapply throughout the day without disturbing my makeup.
Hands. I usually find that my hands are the first part of my body to start being affected by the colder weather. By the end of the day, my hands will look dry, my cuticles will be ragged and I might even find some mild cracking (ouch!).
Hair. Just like with your skincare, you’ll also want to shake up your hair care routine. No matter how much I try, my hair does get lightened in the summer, so I always like to darken my hair this time of year because it will automatically look richer and healthier. I also switch to more natural products and might even throw in a leave-in conditioner, just to make sure my hair doesn’t get fried as I pull out the blow drier.
