21st Century Flea Market. It was very cold, rainy and dark this morning when we woke up. So what better way to spend the morning than wandering around the 21st Century Flea Market at the Croatian Cultural Center in Vancouver. I’ve been receiving their emails for about two years now and have been wanting to go but somehow there was always something else that interfered. Well someone should have smacked me upside the head a long time ago. The place was packed, we drove around the side streets for about 15 minutes just trying to find a parking spot. Once inside it was total sensory overload! I managed to snap a few pictures with my phone but frankly I was way too excited to be taking pictures. This is my kind of place, around 200 tables filled with amazing stories!
Gorgeous pearl necklaces, some real some not but in this case does it really matter?
I love my dslr but there is something so great about an old manual camera. Lots of these around! Old prints, dishes, jewelry, books everything thrown together in four huge rooms, it was out of control.
Two older wonderful British ladies had an amazing table filled with vintage bags, lace, shoes, hats…. I had my eye on a navy purse with an orange plastic handle, but decided not to buy it. I will, however, be back next month and if it is there then it will come home with me!
Same table. There was a hat that, sadly, I did not get a picture of. A pink pillbox/fascinator with varying shades of pink feathers, currently regretting that it did not come home with me. I just couldn’t justify it.
One of my favourite things to browse at flea markets (okay after bags and hats and cameras and books and prints and and and) are brooches. There were so many sparkly butterflies there today.
So many brooches, some expensive some not but all of them sparkly and wonderful! (I know this pic is a little blurry but I decided to include it anyway because you can still make out some fun pieces)
Wonderful brooch, it was Huge and very impressive but not really my style so I decided to leave it for someone who would truly love it.
This little beauty came home with me. I might make it into a pin so I can wear it in my hair during the holidays. Maybe I’ll attach it to a black velvet ribbon…..
This is also a new addition to my collection….hey it’s pink, I couldn’t resist……
Now, as we all know I’m in desperate need of new shades…but what can I say these are vintage Dior (no idea how vintage because I lost my head at this point) and they were only $10!
As great as the ‘stuff’ was, the crowd was really interesting as well. Lots of what I call ‘Vintage Girls’ (just women with a very distinct vintage style) walking around. I’m thinking that I’ll have to go back and ask to take their pictures. Can’t wait until next month!

I had too much fun!
Love the idea of converting a brooch to a hair pin – I’ll have to give that a try!!
I keep seeing them on celebs and they look really cool. Can’t be that hard to do right?
Paradise!
