Flowers in winter. Finally we are getting some sunshine again! I know that it won’t last for long but for now I’m enjoying it thoroughly. As designers are about to flood our senses with colours and patterns that will make up their amazing spring fashions, I can’t help being excited that a change in seasons is just around the corner!
Until then, while there’s still a lot of rain and the days are dark and short, my mind always strays to gorgeous and colourful flowers. Really there’s nothing like a beautiful bouquet sitting right in the middle of your table. They brighten any room and always make me so happy. Flowers are a great inspiration of mine. They look stunning on wonderfully colourful prints in the springtime an summer and they have the ability to make everyone smile. Come to think of it, whenever a blogger posts an image of an inspirational workspace, there’s always a bouquet of flowers present in the shot.
Years ago when I was in Paris, I fell in love with the bouquets they sold on the streets. The bunches were tight, full and very rich in colour. The last time I was in Warsaw, Poland I was thrilled to find similar ones. The best thing is that the flowers were so inexpensive which made it very easy to keep my place stocked with fresh colour every day. I bought this bouquet for about $1.50! I had so much fun going out to the market and choosing gorgeous flowers for my place.
In the winter when my world isn’t full of flowers, I’m always on the lookout for that perfect bundle of prettiness. I have a few florists that I frequent and even when I’m not buying, it’s always fun just to do some window shopping.
So until the sun comes out in full force (or I make it back to Paris) I’m just going to have fun searching!

As a neighbor south of you in Seattle, I share your sentiment about sunlight (especially as a former resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and its Mediterranean light).

I had the same experience in Paris. I love how everything is so fresh in Europe – the flowers, the produce, the bread… it’s a different lifestyle. If I know I will be home for at least 5 days, I will buy fresh flowers for my dining room, which is the most central part of the house. Somehow the fresh scent wafts throughout the entire place! I love the “clean” feeling that comes with fresh cut flowers.
The flowers are so beautiful…they always make me feel so much better in my skin! I love them too.
Happy New Year, Caroline! 🙂

Great photos!!! Here in Athens we have not a lot of space for flowers so I try to have a few at my balcony. You watch them and they make your day!
