Health resolutions you can keep without trying. You know what, I kind of hate this idea of resolutions. Whoever thought them up in the first place was just someone who wanted to cause people more pain. Not only are we constantly being bombarded by media telling us that we have to be happier, but now, just as we enter the dreariest, darkest time of year we are supposed to become fitter, or healthier than we’ve ever been before? What’s that all about?
I used to work in a gym, before owning one and I have to say this was one of the best times because sales would go up tenfold. Whatever happened to just keeping things constant?
Here’s the thing, if you resolve to get fit and healthy and you make all the changes right away, I can almost guarantee that you will fall off that wagon in a couple of weeks. I’m not trying to discourage you from making changes and I encourage you to try and get healthier, but why not do it in easy bite sized pieces so that you can create habits that you might actually be able to keep?
HEALTH RESOLUTIONS YOU CAN KEEP WITHOUT TRYING
Drink More Water. There are a lot of benefits to drinking more water, including a brighter and clearer complexion but so many of us don’t drink enough. So from today on, start your day by drinking a glass of water before you even get out of bed.
Eat More Vegetables. No need to overhaul your diet right away, just start by increasing your vegetable intake. Cut them up the night before so that it’s an easy snack to grab out of the fridge. Eat a handful before dinner. Craving a cookie or a chocolate bar? Go ahead and have it but first eat a vegetable. For good measure you could add some more fruit to your diet as well.
Read Every Label. Once again, don’t worry about eliminating food groups or cutting down on portion sizes. For now, just start reading every single label. This is about educating yourself so that you really know how much you are eating.
Sneak In Walking. Alright, this is one of those tips that you have probably heard over and over again but just remember that every little bit counts. It’s not just about parking further away from your office or the mall. If you are taking an escalator, walk instead of standing. If you are on the phone walk around. Get up and march in place while watching television. Basically walk whenever you can.
Use Your 10 Minutes. We can all spare 10 minutes during the day so take that time for yourself. Whether it’s doing some push ups or meditating, it doesn’t matter. Just make sure it is all about you. Hint, you can even use it to take a 10 minute walk.
Breathe. I know, this is something we do automatically, right? Not so fast. This is about controlling your reaction to stressful situations. When something happens take 20 seconds to breathe slowly and deeply. Think of it like a mini meditation that you can do whenever you want throughout the day.
The best part of all these resolutions is that you don’t have to do every one of them every day. You get to pick and choose. Just pay attention to what you are doing and be more mindful of the details that make up your day.
