How to always start your day off right. I don’t know about you but I really hate waking up and being in a bad mood, it ruins the entire day and there’s usually no good reason for it. I’ve been making an effort to remove whatever negativity I can from my life. Whenever I feel myself getting stressed or down, I’ll go for a quick workout or take my dog for walk, or simply close my eyes for a few minutes and just focus on breathing. This is not a foolproof plan but it does get me through major stressful moments.
On that note, I’ve also started developing a morning routine that helps me start the day off right and with a positive mindset.
HOW TO ALWAYS START YOUR DAY OFF RIGHT
Make Sleep A priority. I know, I know I can already hear you yelling at me but honestly, if you aren’t well rested then how can you expect your brain to function optimally? You can’t. Sure, there are times in our lives where we can’t get enough sleep but the goal is to rest your mind as much as possible. If that means that you might need to spend a few minutes meditating at night then so be it.
Act Don’t React. It’s tempting to grab your phone and start checking your emails first thing. What you might not realize is that this is a lot of first thing in the morning stress that’s being thrown at you. Instead, let your mind work up to those emails. This won’t work for everyone, but what I do is set my alarm a few minutes early and let myself wake up slowly and mindfully.
Plan Your Day. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed by all the things that you need to do today. When you wake up have a glass of water (hydration is always good) and take 20, 15 or even 10 minutes to plan out your day. Even if you aren’t doing anything out of the ordinary, take a moment to breathe and schedule. When you are (mostly) in charge of your day you won’t get as stressed by the unknowns that might creep in. This way you are purposefully choosing what you will accomplish.
Stay In Bed. Alright, this does sound a little strange but hear me out. For many of us the “getting out of bed” is the hardest part. Seriously, I have the best pillow and sleeping on it just makes me happy. Remember how I suggested that you let sleep be a priority? If you can set your alarm a few minutes earlier then go ahead and spend that time slowly waking your brain and body. Be ready for your day.
Exercise Or Be Creative. In an ideal world you will go to the gym before work but that’s obviously not realistic for many of us. What is realistic, however, is getting your heart pumping for 5-10 minutes. Start by doing some easy stretches and then run on the spot or do some jumping jacks. This doesn’t have to be complicated but it’s enough to activate those feel good endorphins. On the days when there is no way you will exercise then sit down and doodle or write or read for a few minutes. Being creative has similar effects to meditation, it’s good for your brain health!

While I’m not saying that using these tips will make your day will be absolutely perfect, I am suggesting that we should be setting ourselves up to have the best possible day.
