How To Be A Better Blogger

how to be a better blogger

How to be a better blogger.  Much of my time is spent mentoring other bloggers. I work with them, offering bits of advice and helping them take a more critical view of their writing and social media skills. Now, I don’t pretend to have all the answers in this ever changing field as there’s always a new app appearing on the market or a new tool or suddenly, all the rules get changed and we are left scrambling to figure them out.  Two years in, however, the one thing I have learned is that there is a constant that needs to be carefully cultivated. There are no guarantees and time plays a huge role, but in the end it’s all about always putting your best foot forward.

HOW TO BE A BETTER BLOGGER

PART 1. I’m so happy to be working one on one with bloggers and entrepreneurs who have opened online stores (many whom I’ve featured on this blog).  There are some questions that get asked over and over again, so please indulge me for a moment and let’s take it right down to the basics.

  • How Do I Start
  • Why Aren’t People Staying On My Site
  • Do I Need To Spend A Lot Of Money

Read more here.

PART 2. There are two ways to look at your site, a fun hobby or a business and both are just fine. The key is being honest with yourself about what you are doing and realizing that succeeding online as a business is hard work. There are no “silver bullets.” This is addressed more to bloggers, but there are some take home tips for anyone running an online store as well. In previous posts, I spoke about branding and that’s perhaps one of the biggest things you want to focus on.
I’m going to assume that like me, many of you started a blog and then after a while noticed that it was fun and then perhaps some brands contacted you offering some free product and before you knew it, you were thinking that maybe you could actually make a go of this.

  • Focus
  • Schedule
  • Branding Part 2
  • Finding Your Voice

Read more here.

PART 3. Of course, the number one question everyone has, is how to get more visits to your site. I think that at one point or another, everyone struggles with this issue. I’ve suffered those jealous pangs, hearing someone lament about the fact that they only got 1000 new followers this month, when I was happy to get 10. This is probably the hardest thing to let go of, but you have to. If all you are doing is hunting for followers then in actuality you won’t see your blog community grow at all.

  • Stop Publicizing
  • Stop Selling
  • Lose Your Ego

Read more here.

If you have any tips you’d like to add, I’d love to hear them and if you have any questions I’ll do my very best to answer them!

  1. I love these tips and I totally agree about not comparing yourself to others blogs! It can make you too competitve and instead of putting out content that is good quality, you’ll be focusing on just putting out and quick and easy content which wont attract other bloggers! xx

    1. It’s a really tough one and I admit that I’m not always successful with it but the way I see it is that if we keep reminding ourselves of that then it starts to slowly sink in.
