How To Be Inspired: In Style

how to be inspired

How To Be Inspired. One of the main reasons I wanted to move to Europe was because all those little things that that give me daily inspiration and feed my soul, where missing in my old home.

Fundamentally, I need to be surrounded by beautiful things on a daily basis. Fascinating architecture, be it contemporary or traditional, art and even outdoor cafes in the summer. These are all visuals which give me the inspiration to write and to be creative in general. Of course, I am always inspired by wonderful fabrics that have been stylized into fashionable clothing, accessories of all kinds and even the occasional perfume. I find all beauty to be very inspiring, but perhaps most of all it’s watching creative people excelling at their craft, that pushes me to produce my best work.

how to be inspired

Here are my tips on how to be inspired:

Always take notes. I carry my lucky pen and a notebook with me wherever I go. The notebook doubles as a journal and agenda but I also use it to jot down any ideas that I might have throughout my day. Whenever I see something beautiful, it could be an article of clothing, a stunning bag, or even a fabulously dressed stranger walking down the street, I make a note of it.

Read a lot. As fashion, style and beauty bloggers, I think that we are lucky because we naturally reach for inspiration by way of fashion magazines and websites. I do, however, find inspiration in reading biographies of people that I admire. I feel like I can enter their minds and understand what makes them tick. In addition, I also love looking at beautiful photography and try to always have at least one coffee table book lying around.

Explore your city. I try to take time every week to walk around my city. I might even pop into a gallery or a local book store. Best case scenario, I find a lovely new shop that has just opened. This is perfect material for my blog. Remember, there are many hidden gems to find when you step away from main streets.

Change your scenery. I try to get out of my home to work on my blog at a coffee shop or the library. This way I can people watch and observe the world around me.

Always carry a camera. Whether this be a point and shoot or your DSLR or even your cell phone. Take pictures, a lot of them. You never know when you might see something that inspires you. Some of my most successful ideas have come from random photographs.

how to be inspired

In order to remain inspired try keeping your inspiration close. It can act as a secret talisman of sorts. Perhaps a photograph of your ultimate destination, a note reminding you of your dream or a book that you one day hope to write. This is what I did when I was dreaming of living in Europe and now, two short years later, I am here.

What do you do for inspiration?
