How to make your eyes look brighter and bigger. I’ve been back from my travels for a few days now, but I’m still exhausted. 3 weeks on a 6 hour time change is a huge change to get over. I’ve actually followed some of my own advice about Post Flight Skincare and so far so good. What I didn’t even think about working on was my eyes and they gave me away. The other day we met some friends for lunch and the first thing I heard was how tired I looked…. Oops!
Taking a closer look in the mirror, I saw that my friend was absolutely right. While my skin looked normal, I still looked really tired. So how do you make your eyes look bigger and brighter?
HOW TO MAKE YOUR EYES LOOK BRIGHTER AND BIGGER
The first thing you are going to need to do is to minimize the dark circles under your eyes. While I believe that some shadow beneath your eyes gives you character (sorry, I’m just not into an overly made up look), the darker the shadows, the duller your eyes will look.
Concealer. In the spirit of minimizing the dark circles under your eyes you’ll need to look for a concealer that’s a shade lighter than your skin colour. A Chanel makeup artist once taught me to apply the concealer in a V shape beneath my eyes, going down to roughly my cheekbones and then to blend, blend, blend and blend some more. I also apply a few drops on my lids for an even base.
White Shadow. Just a little bit will do on the inner corner of your eyes.
Mascara. Before applying a lash lengthening mascara, curl those lashes. The more open they are, the bigger and clearer your eyes will look.
Liner. Now is when you get to start playing. 1.) Apply a thin black liner while staying close to your lash line. 1a.) Another option, especially if you only use neutral shadows, is to use a navy or deep lavender liner instead of the usual black. Both colours will bring out the whites of your eyes thus making them look bigger and brighter. 2). Every woman should own a white pencil which can be applied to your lower waterline. If you do nothing else then don’t skip this step because it will instantly brighten your eyes.
Shadow. Colour really doesn’t have to be garish and it doesn’t have to take you out of your comfort zone. Lavender, metallics like silver and even a pale turquoise will look great on everyone and will go a long way to brightening your eyes.
Eye drops. So, this step might not be as fun as applying makeup, but if the whites of your eyes are red then your eyes don’t stand a chance of looking well rested. Find a brand that’s extra hydrating and apply as directed.
