Look younger in a few easy steps. This is your year and you are going to start it looking your very best. There’s no more joking around or trying the latest and greatest treatments. This is the time to go back to the tried and true beauty regiment.
I’m not happy about getting older either and I fall for click bait as much as the next guy (woman), but in the end it’s consistency that will keep us looking younger.
Let’s turn back the clock and look our very best this year.
LOOK YOUNGER IN A FEW EASY STEPS
EXFOLIATE
WHY? I talk about this step all the time and I don’t always do it myself. Why is exfoliating so important? Our skin sheds its dead skin cells and when they aren’t removed, they build up and can clog your pores, exacerbate or even cause acne, make your skin look dull and tired and increase the visibility of wrinkles.
SOLUTION During the winter months when we are fighting dry skin, it’s okay to exfoliate only once or twice a week. Remember to use a gentle product and use a light touch performing small circular motions for the best effect.
SERUM
WHY? Unlike a regular face cream, a serum has smaller molecules which can penetrate deep into all three layers of your skin: the epidermis, the dermis and finally the hypodermis (deep subcutaneous tissue). You can read more about this here: DO I REALLY NEED TO USE A SERUM
SOLUTION After you have thoroughly washed your face, apply a tiny (pea sized) amount of serum and gently pat it into your face. Wait a few minutes for it to properly sink in before applying your moisturizer. Here’s a handy tip. If you are using an expensive serum and want to make it last even longer, simply add a drop to either your evening or morning moisturizer as a booster.
SUN PROTECTION
WHY? Your number one defense against ageing will be sun care and that should be enough to make you want to wear it every day.
SOLUTION Look for a sunscreen with a minimum of 30 SPF and active sun protection ingredients. Look for: zinc or titanium dioxide as they bounce the sun’s rays away from your skin. Make sure you are choosing a full spectrum sunscreen which will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. The first is important because UVA rays (ultra violet A) penetrate deep into your skin causing wrinkles and sun spots (hyperpigmentation) aka, they make you look old. UVB (ultra violet B) rays, on the other hand, don’t penetrate as deeply, but they are what cause sun burns.

The key to unlocking the fountain of youth is consistency. It’s about creating easy to adopt habits that we can keep up with even when we are tired and even when we just don’t feel like it. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m certainly not going to spend hours every single night performing a hundred different tasks for the sake of beauty as that’s just not reasonable. This list is the minimum that you should be doing anyway, so no more procrastinating. Unlock that fountain of youth and look your best today!
