Nars makeup. I’m not a huge fan of getting massages (I know, I know I’m kind of weird that way) but I do love a good facial and makeup consultation. I don’t do this too often but lately I’ve been trying to take advantage of the offers at various makeup counters. I’m usually in need of something so it’s not a problem to buy a product. One counter I’ve absolutely fallen in love with is the Nars makeup counter at Holt Renfrew in Vancouver. Every time I’m there the staff make me feel as if I’m the most important person in the world. They are super friendly and best of all, patiently answer all my questions!
Make up counters are so exciting for me….all that colour, all those promises that I will suddenly be transformed. I’m such a sucker for it and frankly I love every single minute! In truth, I’ve been using the new Nars skincare line and I love it. Just recently I was introduced to their new face cream, it feels so light going on and keeps my skin wonderfully moisturized all day. I think it’s definitely a keeper!
I was feeling under the weather today and really didn’t want my face touched so I suckered (she would probably say otherwise) my friend Beth into taking my makeup consultation for me. I did, however, decide that I was well enough to get in everyone’s way and document her entire experience! On a quick aside, there was an actual photo shoot going on right behind us and the professional photographer kept smirking at my little DSLR…
“We” (I had nothing to do with the choice) decided to go for a slightly heavier eye, more of an evening look. I love that the Nars makeup artist chose a deep purple liner instead of a black one. It’s not quite as intense and very contemporary looking. I own this liner and it really is a nice deep shade of purple.
We spent quite a while creating the perfect depth for the eyes!
After some discussion ‘we’ chose a very light blush with a hint of sparkle. I was surprised that the make up artist didn’t go with Nars’ famous Orgasm blush but Beth has a really nice natural flush to her cheeks so I suppose it wasn’t necessary. They chose a lovely pale pink lip gloss and some very faint all over sparkle to finish off the look.
The lighting could have been better, department stores just don’t seem to consider my photographic needs, no idea what that’s all about, but here she is! I think she looks great, just the right amount of product, perfect for a casual evening out.
As much as I truly love the products and the Nars makeup counter, I think their foundation has just become my favourite. Although Beth has a very smooth complexion to start, a small amount of their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer completely transformed her skin tone. This foundation is very similar to all the BB creams that are gaining in popularity so quickly in North America. Beth is wearing Alaska, second to lightest shade.
The best part of these types experiences is that you are given so many amazing tips for applying makeup, for instance I learned to apply a hint of powder to set my foundation before applying blush. These are techniques you can draw on forever….or at least until the next visit!
Have you ever been to the Nars makeup counter?

You’re funny! I love green eyeshadow by the way….
I also like the Super Orgasm gloss and multiple stick – it has sort of a gold/peachy undertone that, for me, works even better than the regular Orgasm color for everyday.
Yeah I really like that one too!
I should start visiting the counters then! I always stray away from them, but I forget they do give make-up advice and answer questions and can be very helpful. It doesn’t hurt to have them pamper me 🙂
Oh you absolutely should. I was hesitant to give them my number at first but really I only get maybe a call a month or even less and they give me lots of freebies and first dibs at good times when they have facials……
Freebies too! I forgot about those.
I’m OBSESSED with the heatwave lipstick by Nars– by far my favorite lipstick EVER. Love this light, natural look here!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a sweet message!!
XOXO

I’m going to have to check that one out! I just bought their Baroque lip pencil. Thanks!
I usually don’t like anyone touching my face and do not like alot of makeup. Maybe one day I will let someone pamper me that way!
That’s why I don’t like massages! The nice part of this is that it’s free and you have a lot of control!
not that this was the focus of your post, but I too share a particular disdain for massages – I like them in theory, but when the hour is over, I feel no real lasting effects. Although a good makeup consultation could surely last a lifetime, or at least through this season of fashion – I have been contemplating a facial for a while and you just might have convinced me to treat myself next month for my birthday – love your work as always. -SIP
Absolutely go for your Birthday! (Come to think of it, mine’s next month too… hey great plan)
Great information. Love your new post.
