Skoah. Okay I’ll admit it, I’ve never actually had a real facial before. Sure I do mini facials at home and a few months ago I had one at a higher end department store but never a real facial at a spa…. I know, I know, but somehow it never happened. To be honest, I just didn’t get the point. It’s not overly logical, I spend time working out, getting my hair done, picking out makeup and choosing great outfits, why don’t I spend more time on my skin care? Well on my birthday a good friend of mine presented me with a gift certificate and rather than let it go to waste (which I almost did) I decided to throw caution to the wind and went.
So on an ugly, rainy Friday I showed up at Skoah in Yaletown. Sure I’ve walked by before and I’ve even been inside but somehow I never committed to any of their services. When I booked my appointment I specifically didn’t look at the package my friend bought so that I wouldn’t start stressing about it. Thursday had been a really tough day and I didn’t need any more stress even if imagined.
A warm and inviting space, from the moment I walked in the door I could feel the tension beginning to melt. Everyone was so nice and friendly. I waited for a few minutes and then Stef, my Skin Care Personal Trainer, brought me to my room. In a health conscious, exercise obsessed city I think that’s such a fantastic way to look at skin care. They actually have skin gym memberships and at home workouts. It’s crazy, I’m very aware of how awful I look when I haven’t had enough sleep or water yet I never think to really take care of my skin on a regular basis. What you put into your body is important but you can’t forget about what you put on it. I have a daily routine that I do but it certainly isn’t perfect.
My room was toasty warm with a heated bed…. I’m relaxing just thinking about it. I have to admit I was surprised when Stef instructed me to remove my clothing, uh this is a facial right? She quickly clarified that I was also getting a shoulder/neck massage and a foot/calf massage. Off went my clothes! Stef explained everything she was doing and to my surprise informed me that my skin is in pretty good shape….Excellent! The products were so gentle and smelled so good, I quickly fell under the facial spell. I don’t have the ability to stay quiet and I chatted the whole time but Stef was extremely patient with me. The only bad part was having to leave, I might have to stage a sit in the next time I’m there. Since this a skin gym and I have to maintain my amazing new glow, I decided to bring a few things home with me. I bought the Skrubbin’ Face Wash (smells yummy and fruity), tonik (a toner that smells like a fresh cucumber) and this amazing lip balm (lip dip) that makes my lips amazingly soft. I pledge to take better care of my skin from now on!
Have you been to a spa like Skoah before?

Guess what, Caroline.. I’ve never had a facial either! & on top of that.. I just had my FIRST official massage last week! haha i love this post b/c i just purchased my first skin care package (at Target though) and am beginning to be self-conscious of the ‘lines’ that are forming from lack of sleep. ah now that I mention it you’ll pay more attention to them in the pics lol! talk soon :] xo, K from loveyouduh.com
I like the idea of having a more specific product regimen – and I should probably go for a consultation sometime after the holiday madness dies down. I could never sit sill for a facial, though!
Hi Caroline! Well I’m taking care of my skin as well.. We must to! & Even more when the cold days arrive – so agressive for the skin!

Wow, that sounds sooo inviting! I am a sucker for a good lip balm that makes my lips really smooth!
Sounds like a perfect way to de-stress & detox. I need a message & a facial….like NOW! 😀

Whilst your own skin care routine is good enough, some times it’s just nice to let someone else take care of it for you. A self massage is never as good. We’ve had a few professional facials, and recently just booked one in a spa. And the ambience of the place is just enough to sleep there never mind getting pampered too.
Glad that you enjoyed your experience, a pledge worth keeping up wouldn’t you say! 😀

It sounds as you really enjoyed your time there! I just tried a facial and neck massage like 3 times in my life and just before special occasions, but lately I’ve been thinking about getting a facial on a more regular basis and then I read your post! Now I’m totally inspired to go for it!

It is interesting shop. You know, I at all don’t use creams, but I think that the age approached and already it is time, but I so don’t love feeling of cream on skin (((.

Woohoo! Thanks. Love your blog too.
Get rid of the dead skin! Exfoliation is the key to healthy, glowing skin. When you exfoliate, you are taking the dead skin off of your face. Skin is constantly replacing itself, leaving dead skin on the top layer. Exfoliation should be part of your daily skin care routine.
