Style resolutions we should all be making. We are already a few weeks into the new year and I’ve still been thinking about resolutions. Last week we talked about super easy ways to incorporate tiny changes in your health and fitness routine which will help overhaul your approach to getting healthy.

So today, I thought we tackle the fashion side of things. This isn’t about changing the way you look, don’t get me started on the whole, ‘New Year, New You’ BS that we are often subjected to. This is more about being more conscious of how you are spending your money and where it really matters. Best of all, these apply to all ages and all lifestyles.
STYLE RESOLUTIONS WE SHOULD ALL BE MAKING
Waste Less. I was recently invited to join an online clothing swap group. I did, but I knew that I’d have nothing to contribute for a long time because I rarely have too much unworn clothing. There are pieces I wear less frequently and I fully admit to having a chain mail skirt in my closet that I will never wear again, but I actually wear all the rest of my clothing. The key is to stop over-buying crap that you will never wear.
Spend More. Alright, I know everyone is on a budget and I absolutely respect that 100%. This is certainly not meant to encourage anyone to spend above their means, but take a look at the 20 or so t-shirts in your closet. How much were they? What if you spent that same amount on 5 or 6 better quality ones? What about the jeans in your closet? I don’t know about you but I’m sick and tired of having to constantly replace cheap clothing that basically just fills up our landfills. I’d rather keep my nice pieces for a long time.
- This extends to footwear as well, I hate replacing my shoes year after year. Sure it’s great when you find a pair for “really cheap,” but take a second to think how they are being made and who is making them.
Support Local. Of course this isn’t always feasible for everything, but quite often smaller boutiques are very accessible price-wise. Not only that but when you aren’t shopping in the mass produced aisle, you’ll have a better chance of finding unique pieces. Additionally, people who work in small boutiques often have a great eye for detail and they usually care a lot more about you as a client, which means that you’ve just found yourself a personal stylist.
Build Up Your Accessories Closet. Classic accessories will never go out of style and when they are good quality, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ll have them forever. Not only that, but if you change your accessories you transform your whole outfit. So you can wear the same foundation items over and over again and each time you do, they’ll look completely different.

Shop In Your Closet. It’s time to take a look in your closet and pick out some of the pieces that you rarely wear. It’s okay to push yourself. How many of us have a sequined top just waiting for the right party? Why not wear it to the office? Pair it with a blazer and it will be perfect. Or try putting together different patterns that would normally take you out of your comfort zone. I’m positive that you have at least one top, skirt or pair of shoes that you never wear for no good reason. So tomorrow, that’s exactly what you will incorporate into your outfit.
Stop Mindless Spending. I do this too, we all do, I think. You get bored, you see something online and before you know it, you are meeting the delivery guy at the door. Before buying anything, go do a search through what you already own. You might find that you desperately need a new sweater, but you might also find that you have 3 similar ones already. Another trick I use is to place my online order without pressing the ‘buy’ button. This way I can really think about whether or not I need that new item.
