Thyroid and focus. In addition to weight gain and joint paint and always feeling cold, complete exhaustion and brain fog set it when my thyroid started to crap out on me.
THYROID AND FOCUS
The process was gradual, nothing happened quickly. One day I was fine and then I started my slow mental decline. If I list out my symptoms you might say that I had depression but if there was one thing I knew for sure, it was that I did not.

One of the worst symptoms, apart from weight gain which sucks, was the loss of my ability to focus. Not only was it harder to work properly but I suddenly found myself unable to read or write, two things that have always been very important to me.
Even though I was struggling, I knew that my new medications would start working at some point, but since I’m not the kind of person who likes waiting for anything so I knew that I would have to figure something out. What I decided to do was to stop stressing myself out with complicated book lists and I turned to simple easy (but fun) reads that let me dream without having to focus too much.
I’ve always loved travel so I threw myself into books that would let me dream.

See a pattern developing here? Yes Paris. My husband and I were embarking on our European journey and while we were moving to Poland, Paris was always in my dreams.
All of these books are whimsical and allow for plenty of day dreaming. What they also have in common are the authors who have chosen to follow their dreams. They don’t necessarily sugarcoat the fact that moving to a new country can be hard (something I can attest to) and there will be plenty of meltdowns but as long as you don’t let the unexpected stresses get to you, it’s a wonderful adventure. All of these books provided the inspiration I needed to push through and make the most of living abroad.
Even now when I want to romanticize my dreams of walking down cobblestone streets, eating croissants and drinking lattes in quaint cafe’s, I will pick up one of these books and get lost for a little while.
