Baseball Hats. I am passionate about hats. I am passionate about new and wonderful discoveries. I am passionate about great design. The Tomcap embodies all three of these elements. They are a beautifully streamlined version of baseball hats created by Evelin Mauff of Berlin. With a milliner’s background and a true artist’s soul, she has managed to take the classic hat we all love and transform it into a unique work of art. Her goal is for all of us to be comfortable wearing hats on a daily basis and not just for special occasions.
I have always been a fan of classic baseball hats so when I was approached by Evelin I jumped at the chance to try out her creations. The Tomcap comes in a vast range of gorgeous colours, from an understated black to a bright and happy mauve. Each cap is made of a very lightweight wool that allows your head to breathe, yet it protects you from the rain. On a sunny day, even under the beating sun, my head stayed nice and cool. I’ve been wearing my hat for a couple of weeks now and I love that when I put it on, my hair doesn’t get crushed and there’s absolutely no static or frizz. I’m not, however, the only one who loves these fabulous hats. They have been worn by Band Seeed, artist singer Pat Appleton and even Yoko Ono. I feel like I’m in great company as I walk down the street.
The best part about these hats is that they are so versatile. In the morning I wore my Tomcap for a walk in the park and in the afternoon it was with me for a coffee and a bike ride. From now on, it will definitely be the hat I reach for on a casual Saturday! My only question? Where was this hat when I was living in Vancouver? It’s so perfect for the West Coast!
Would you wear the Tomcap, this sophisticated reinvention of baseball hats?
