Valentine’s Day. Let me get this thought out of the way: I love it. Yes that’s right, I admit it. I think that Valentine’s Day is a great holiday. I have been reading a lot about how this isn’t a real holiday and how it’s all a big ploy to get more money out of us. All of this might be true, I can’t disagree, but I don’t have a problem with it, with any of it.
Let me explain. Currently I live in a country where people aren’t generally cheerful. It’s an odd thing to say, but it’s true. Living in Canada spoiled me. I miss the genuine smile when passing someone on the street, chatting with the waiters at my favourite coffee place or simply exchanging a kind word with a stranger in the elevator.
So you see, I believe that what is missing so desperately here is happiness. Over the past few days, kiosks filled with Valentine’s Day goodies have appeared on my morning walk to work. They are filled with red candy hearts, teddy bears and balloons. I took a moment to look around and saw, to my surprise, people’s faces relax. Their tension seemed to melt away and quite a few of them stopped for a moment to admire the prettiness and yes, some even bought the heart shaped lollipops.
For the rest of us, this is a day to remember loved ones. No one is forcing us to buy expensive gifts (although I wouldn’t say no to a diamond), but it is the perfect moment to stop and appreciate your partner, friend or a family member. We live hectic lives and we forget to add a daily dose of romance. This Valentine’s day, take a moment to notice the beauty that surrounds us and spend some time celebrating what our world needs more of: Love. This Valentine’s day, I pledge to pull out some of my favourite accessories like a great crimson lipstick and a fabulous pair of patent cherry heels, to hold my head up high and to be nice to everyone who crosses my path!
How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Happy Valentine´s Day! No different in Norway, smiling is not a thing especially not smiling at strangers. You´ll get a couple of weird looks doing that.
Ha! I did but I feel that people need to smile more!

Such a fun post! I’m not the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day, but it always ends up being a great night for me. I spend it with great friends, good wine, and a whole lot of chocolate 🙂 Hope yours was fabulous!

That sounds like a great night. The way I see it is let the media say what they want, personally I decide how I choose to celebrate!
